He became a Baha'i in 1921 and in 1926 he acted as the literary adviser to Shoghi Effendi, reading through and editing all of the Guardian's major publications. At Shoghi Effendi's request he wrote
"‘Abdu’l-Bahá recognized Chase as "the first American believer," and Shoghi Effendi later described him as "indeed the first to embrace the Cause of Bahá’u’lláh in the Western world."
The one characteristic of that heart was the most extraordinary and true humility I have ever seen.
